This is a beautiful practical piece of antique kitchenalia - antique iron pestle and mortar.  Both pestle and mortal have beautiful simple shapes.  The mortar has two ridges on the side which have been worn down after years of use whilst the pestle sits very comfortably in your hand - the perfect shape and size for crushing herbs and spices.
 
We can't help thinking that using an antique pestle and mortar as beautiful as this would enhance the taste and cooking experience of anything that this is used to make.
