It's always frustrating when we don't know much about the items we find. This table is no exception. We bought it off a dealer in France and he couldn't tell us anything about it's history. Needless to say what we don't know about it's past we can see in it's characteristics and wear.
What's first noticeable is the size of the planks used on the top; these are wide and the table top is only made up of two boards. Secondly the table is made up of varying wood types - the table top is pine with hardwood legs. We can imagine this table being used in the heart of a French rustic kitchen where everything was done - meals prepared, bread baked, fruits preserved........ There is a utensil drawer in the centre side of the table for easy access and a bread drawer at one end.
This table is time-worn and marked with every single mark adding to it's character. To achieve this level of country-rustic appeal has taken years and years to achieve in the heart of the kitchen. It's a look that cannot be reproduced by imitation.
This table deserves a place in a modern-rustic kitchen where it can continue to give years of service.
